I’ve been noticing the flyer for the Walden Community School every where I go lately. Maybe it’s a sign that I need to look into it for my kids! From what I’ve read about this school I find it appealing that they are offering “organic gardening”, “empowering children to do something about the environment”, and offering an “ecological curriculum”. The school started on August 20th and seems to follow the same calendar as Orange County. Walden Community School is located in Winter Park on Howell Branch Road. For more information, visit their website.

I think Waldorf ideas are cool. However, don’t forget that Waldorfians also teach Anthroposophy, also called spiritual science, which is a spiritual philosophy based on the teachings of Rudolf Steiner. The teachings can be borderline cult like and one should investigate all aspects of education before they jump into a situation they may not fully understand.
Oh, my bad you were saying walden not waldorf…..who created the walden school? I saw the names but I don’t know much more than that. How much is it to attend? Who created the curriculum?
Is this school new? I tried to find out info on the educators, and the website only talks about one educator, who is part time and will deliver a baby in November. I am unable to see anything else about the educators or when the school was founded, how much it costs etc. The are a few alternative schools around one that comes to mind is run by Sue Dolamore http://www.schooldigger.com/go/FL/schools/9999914401/school.aspx
Maybe you should just stop by the school and ask them your questions
Then you can get back to us here in the comments section.
I was able to navigate their website and yearly tuition is $650 a month or $6500 a year. I haven’t had a chance to check the school out in person yet. The only thing I didn’t understand on the website was whether the grades started at Kindergarten or 1st. As far as I could see their was no pre-K and the curriculum runs hrough middle school.
$650.00 per month is a lot. I think we will continue homeschooling
That’s about average for private school. I am going back to work in August, and I’m going to explore this option for my son.
