After trying to wipe the newest scratch from my glasses of 5 years, I recently decided it was high time for a new pair and for an eye exam for that matter. I decided to try the newly built location of Advanced Eyecare of Central Florida that is located near State Route 46 and Orange Boulevard in Sanford.
Dr. Christy Larson was very attentive and took lots of time to engage in conversation about my eye health and also spoke with me in depth about the importance of healthy nutrition! We discussed an issue I had in the past with dry, red eyes before I tried drinking the recommended amount of water each day. She confirmed the importance of drinking plenty of water to re-hydrate the body, including the eyes, and also believes drinking water has played a key role in the disappearance of my dry, red eye symptoms.
After deciding on new glasses versus contacts, Dr. Larson offered a new procedure for me to think about for the future. It is a surgery-free alternative to LASIK called Advanced Orthokeratology! The AOK contact lens is worn at night to change the shape of the eye while sleeping. Excellent uncorrected vision during the day can be expected in most cases. It is very exciting that there is a less invasive alternative to LASIK and also that, unlike LASIK, the AOK lens can be fine-tuned throughout life to conform to visual changes.
From their knowledge of natural approaches to their vast selection of designer frames to the quick turn around time for prescription glasses, Dr. Christy Larson and her partner and husband, Dr. Ben Larson offer a great practice to visit for eye care. For more information, visit their website or brand new facility.
I couldn’t disagree more with the previous post regarding Advanced Eyecare of Central Florida. I went in to renew my contact lens prescription and ended up getting dragged around their office, trying to get me to buy into anything they had to sell. They tried getting me to buy: prescription sunglasses, much more expensive contacts, AOK – an alternative to Lasik. It was horrible. 2 hours of trying to “up-sell” me on everything. I will NEVER go back. I felt like I was being dragged around a used-car lot.
I would have to agree with Nicole. I broke one of my RGP lenses and called the office to get a replacement. Of course, it had been a year, so I had to come in for an exam. I told them I was unemployed at the moment and need to know the exact cost that I would be paying for the exam, lenses, etc. I was told $60 for the exam and replacement lens would be $109. So I was prepared to pay $169 for everything. When I went to check out, they told me my total was $400++ !!! I knew I didn’t opt-in for all of the additional tests, etc. So I asked why I was being charged so much?! They failed to tell me that there was also a fitting fee of $143 and the charge for the other lens that I didn’t need!! Even though they quoted me the price over the phone, apparently incorrect. They would not honor that price. I finally had to ask to see the doctor again to ask if I could get the other lens at a later date. She hesitated, but then agreed, but it had to be within 90 days.
When I started going to Dr. Ben and Christy, they were extremely thorough and helpful. They didn’t try to pressure sell all of the additional tests, products, etc. I always knew exactly what I would be paying before I got there. It seems like the greed has set in and I won’t be going back either!!!
I will never go back to Advanced Eyecare. They billed me $123 for an eye exam, $92.65 for a contact lens fitting, and $60. I called VSP to find out how much benefit was available, they said none, and brought to my attention that $60 was charged for contacts that were not ordered/received. I called AECF to find out what happened to the lenses they billed for. Was told they prebilled the $60 to the insurance company as a convenience to me, and that there was a $60 credit available to me at thier store until Dec 31 – use it or lose it. I was unaware of this pre-billing and $60 credit until Nov 4th. Seems rather unethical and possibly illegal to prebill an insurance company. Never again.
I have visited a few other sites related to this subject in the past couple of days in doing a research report for my boss. I have to say that what you’re saying here makes perfect sense and is helping me to get my head around this subject. Do you have any other websites you could recommend to help my research?
Thank you,
