This weekend, Progress Energy is giving away free trees at various Central FL locations. The types include Dalhoun Holly, Eastern Redbud, Firebush, Simon’s Stopper, and Wild Coffee.
Here’s the text from the email I received about the event:
Wind-blown trees and limbs are a leading cause of power outages. Pick up a native, low-growing tree — a better choice to plant near the lower-voltage power lines that are common in most neighborhoods — at one of these Know Where You Grow tree giveaways; limit one per household.

April 25, 2008 Arbor Day weekend
9 a.m. – noon, Tom Varn Park, 306 Darby Lane, Brooksville
9 a.m. – noon, Wildwood City Hall at 100 N. Main St., Wildwood
April 26, 2008 Arbor Day weekend
9 a.m. – 2 p.m., Lake Mary Elementary School at 132 S. Country Club Road, Lake Mary
7 – 11 a.m., Polk Avenue Elementary School at 110 E. Polk Ave., Lake Wales
8 a.m. – 1 p.m., Progress Energy Operations Center at 452 E. Crown Point Road, Winter Garden
