Carly Sullens, of New Passage Ways, recently formed a support group for new moms in the Orlando area. Building Local Ongoing Support for Sprouting Orlando Moms, B.L.O.S.S.O.M, offers moms who have given birth within the last year a place to go for discussion and friendship as they make the transition into motherhood. Carly is a childbirth educator, birth doula and art therapist and she states,
A mother’s group is an excellent way to normalize your experience as a new mother and a great way to make long term contacts with others that are going through the same adjustments and challenges that you are. It can help to break the isolation that can accompany time with a young baby in a safe and nurturing environment.
The group will address many common postpartum topics like stress management, myths of motherhood, and indicators of postpartum depression. Carly is also exploring unique topics such as feeling heard, valued, understood and nurtured; experiencing non-judgmental assistance; and exploring cultural rituals for new moms.
Blossom meets weekly on Fridays and moms are encouraged to drop in, registration is not necessary. This is a free support group but donations are appreciated. The group started on September 12 and is already growing into a great resource.
